Credwn bod pob aelod o gymuned ysgol Carreg Hirfaen yn ddysgwr - boed disgyblion, staff neu rhieni. Gyda'n gilydd rydym yn datblygu fel sefydliad dysgu, gan ddefnyddio gwybodaeth a ddaw o ymchwil, arferion ysgolion eraill, busnesau, a'r byd go iawn i adeiladu diwylliant ar gyfer gwella.

Mae cwricwlwm newydd yn cael ei ddatblygu ar gyfer lleoliadau ac ysgolion yng Nghymru a bydd yn cael ei ddefnyddio ledled y wlad o Fedi 2022 ymlaen.

Er mwyn cael y gorau o'n holl ddysgwyr (ac mae hynny'n cynnwys staff) credwn fod yn rhaid i ni gynnig profiadau cyfoethog a chyffrous. Rydym fel ysgol wedi ymrwymo i ddatblygu cwricwlwm sy'n ennyn diddordeb, yn ennyn brwdfrydedd ac yn ysbrydoli ein disgyblion a'n staff. Rydym yn annog athrawon i gael y rhyddid i addysgu mewn ffyrdd y byddant yn sicrhau y canlyniadau gorau i'w dysgwyr.

Mae gan bob plentyn lais yma yn Carreg Hirfaen ac maen nhw'n cyfrannu at eu cwricwlwm. Rydym yn sicrhau bod ganddynt berchnogaeth dros eu dysgu trwy gynllunio fel dosbarth ar ddechrau pob tymor.

Rydym yn astudio pwnc gwahanol pob tymor ac mae gennym bwyslais cryf ar gaffael a chymhwyso sgiliau a gwybodaeth trwy ddysgu trwy brofiad a gweithredoedd.

Ar draws pob Maes Dysgu a Phrofiad (AoLEs), mae cynllun cadarn mewn lle ar gyfer cymhwyso rhifedd, llythrennedd a chymhwysedd digidol. Disgwylir i athrawon gynllunio a chyflawni amcanion dysgu sydd wedi'u gosod yn briodol i anghenion y dysgwyr.

Mae gan y gwersi feini prawf llwyddiant (sydd hefyd yn cynnwys rhifedd, llythrennedd a / neu gymhwysedd digidol) i sicrhau bod y dysgwyr yn ymwybodol o'r sgiliau penodol y maen nhw'n eu datblygu yn y wers honno. Yn ogystal â llythrennedd, rhifedd a chymhwysedd digidol, mae athrawon yn cynllunio ar gyfer cyfleoedd i fynd i'r afael ag addysg perthnasoedd a rhywioldeb yn unol â'r Cwricwlwm newydd i Gymru.

Mae pob pwnc ysgol yn cael ei lawnsio ar ddechrau pob tymor newydd naill ai trwy deithiau dirgel, gweithgareddau yn yr ysgol neu ddefnyddio ymwelwyr er mwyn sicrhau ymgysylltiad effeithiol â'r dysgwyr o ddiwrnod cyntaf pob tymor. Rydym hefyd yn dathlu'r gwaith a gyflawnwyd gan ein disgyblion trwy gynnal diwrnod dathlu ar ddiwedd pob tymor.

Mae Confensiwn y Cenhedloedd Unedig ar Hawliau'r Plentyn yn greiddiol i bolisïau, ymarfer ac ethos ein hysgol.

Fel ysgol sy'n parchu hawliau'r unigolyn rydym nid yn unig yn dysgu am hawliau plant ond hefyd yn modelu hawliau a pharch ym mhob perthynas. Mae ein cred mewn “dulliau adferol” yn sicrhau bod pawb yn gwrando.

Mae agwedd ysgol gyfan tuag at lesiant yn galluogi ein disgyblion i ddeall eu hemosiynau eu hunain ac emosiynau eraill. Mae hyn yn unol â'r AoLE Iechyd a Lles, ac mae wedi'i integreiddio trwy gydol y diwrnod ysgol, a thrwy'r cwricwlwm ei hun.

A CURRICULUM FOR ALL

We believe that every member of the school community at Carreg Hirfaen is a learner - pupils, staff and parents.  Together we develop as a learning organisation, using information from research, other schools, businesses and the real world to build a culture for improvement.

A new curriculum is being developed for settings and schools in Wales and will be used throughout the country from 2022.

We believe that to get the best out of all our learners (and that includes staff) we have to offer rich and exciting experiences. As a school we are committed to developing a curriculum which engages, enthuses and inspires our pupils and staff. We encourage teachers to have the freedom to teach in ways they feel will have the best outcomes for their learners. 

All children have a voice here at Carreg Hirfaen and contribute to their curriculum. We ensure that they have ownership over their learning through class planning at the beginning of each term.

We study a whole school topic each term and have a strong emphasis on the acquisition and application of skills and knowledge through experiential and active learning.

Across all Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLEs), the application of numeracy, literacy and digital competency is robustly planned for.  Teachers are expected to plan and deliver learning objectives pitched appropriately to the needs of the learners.  

Lessons have success criteria (which also include numeracy, literacy and/or digital competency) to ensure the learners are aware of the particular skills they are looking to develop within that lesson. In addition to literacy, numeracy and digital competence, teachers plan for opportunities to address relationships and sexuality education in line with the new CfW.

Every school topic is launched at the beginning of each new term either through mystery trips, school based activities or use of visitors to ensure effective learner engagement from the first day of each term. We also celebrate the work achieved by our pupils through a celebration day at the end of each term. 

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is at the heart of our school’s planning, policies, practice and ethos.

As a rights-respecting school we not only teach about children’s rights but also model rights and respect in all relationships.  Our belief in “restorative approaches” ensures that every child is listened to. 

There is a whole school approach to well-being enabling pupils to understand their own and others’ emotions.  This is in line with the Health and Well-Being AoLE, and is integrated throughout the school day, and through out the curriculum itself.
