Summary:
Carreg Hirfaen Primary School
We would like to thank all parents and carers who took the time to complete our Parent Voice Questionnaire during Spring 2026. We received 46 responses, providing valuable feedback that helps us celebrate our strengths and identify areas for further development. The overwhelming majority of responses were very positive and reflected the strong relationships between the school, pupils and families.
What Parents Told Us
A Happy, Safe and Caring School
Parents overwhelmingly agreed that:
- Their children enjoy attending school.
- Children feel safe and well cared for.
- The school provides a welcoming and nurturing environment.
- Pupil wellbeing is a priority.
- Staff treat children fairly and with respect.
Parents spoke positively about the welcoming atmosphere at the school and the strong relationships between staff, pupils and families. Families reported that their children are happy in school, feel safe and enjoy their learning experiences.
Many parents highlighted the school's nurturing environment and commented on the care, encouragement and support provided by staff on a daily basis. Many parents commented on the warm relationships children have with staff and the positive atmosphere throughout the school.
Wellbeing Remains a Strength
A key message throughout the questionnaire was the importance placed on pupil wellbeing. Parents recognised the school's commitment to supporting children's emotional health and creating an environment where pupils feel valued, respected and supported.
Teaching and Learning
Feedback regarding teaching and learning was highly positive. Parents generally agreed that:
- Teaching is of a good quality.
- Children are making good progress.
- Staff have high expectations and encourage pupils to do their best.
- Educational experiences, including visits and residential trips, enrich children's learning.
Parents praised staff for supporting pupils' progress and helping children develop confidence and enjoyment in learning.
they also expressed confidence in the quality of teaching and learning across the school. Feedback indicated that children are making good progress and are supported to achieve their potential.
Educational visits, residential experiences and wider learning opportunities were also valued by families, who recognised the important role these experiences play in enriching children's learning and personal development.
Communication with Families
Parents identified ParentPay, the school website and social media platforms as useful sources of information and acknowledged the positive relationships they have with school staff.
Many parents commented on how approachable staff are and appreciated the support offered when concerns or questions arise.
Most parents felt that the school has positive relationships with parents and carers and communicates effectively.
Supporting Learning at Home
Parents expressed particular interest in receiving guidance on:
- Reading
- Mathematics and Numeracy
- Spelling
- Emotional wellbeing
- Online safety
- Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
- The Curriculum for Wales
This feedback will help us plan future parent information sessions and workshops.
Educational Visits and Residential Experiences
Parents were broadly supportive of educational visits and residential opportunities. Some families suggested:
- More trips for younger pupils.
- Greater consideration of costs for families.
- Exploration of shorter residential experiences for younger pupils.
This feedback will be considered during future planning.
What We Will Continue to Improve
Alongside the many positive responses, parents also shared thoughtful suggestions that will help us continue to improve our provision. These include:
- Receiving key dates and event information as early as possible, i.e. reminders when new events are added to the school calendar.
- Some parents expressed a desire for more opportunities to become involved in school life. Parents suggested:
- Additional opportunities to visit classrooms and celebrate children's learning.
- Attending workshops that support learning at home, i.e. guidance on areas such as reading, numeracy, wellbeing, online safety and the Curriculum for Wales.
- Curriculum information sessions.
We are grateful for these constructive suggestions and will use them to inform our future planning.
Our Next Steps
In response to the questionnaire findings, we will:
- Review communication systems and calendar notifications.
- Explore additional opportunities for parents to visit classrooms and engage with learning.
- Develop parent workshops based on the areas identified.
- Continue to promote pupil wellbeing and high-quality teaching and learning.
- Use the feedback to inform future school improvement planning.
